Belgium is a new partner in Project MinE! Research will be executed at KU Leuven and VIB Leuven. The Belgian ALS foundation, the ALS Liga, already raised funding for analysis of the first 25 Belgian DNA samples (Like to strike ALS 2013 – € 10.000 and A Cure for ALS 2014 – € 40.000). In addition, the ALS Liga has found a high profile ambassador for the project: Mr. Herman van Rompuy, the President of the European Council. In a dedicated video message Mr. Van Rompuy states the urgency of the project and invites everyone to join and to ‘make it yours’. This is a tremendous motivation for the ALS community in Belgium and in the rest of Europe.
